A cleaner Vanadzor Canyon

26/09/2020

The Vanadzor Canyon is one of the favorite picnic places of Vanadzorians. It is also one of the most polluted areas of the town and is full of plastic waste.

EcoHub Foundation and the Municipality of Vanadzor made joint efforts to change this reality. On September 20, they placed 6 large garbage bins (among them 3 for plastic waste and 3 for mixed waste) in different places of the Canyon. They also placed 5 info-signs which will encourage the visitors of the Canyon to be more caring towards the nature and towards other visitors of the Canyon and to keep the place clean.

The day before, on September 19, “My Step” foundation and the Ministry of Local Governance and Infrastructure organized a clean-up day in the Vanadzor Canyon. Within just a couple of hours the volunteers collected more than 500 large bags of garbage from some of the most polluted spots.

  • We thank the members of EcoHub Foundation and Boo Mountain Bike Park for doing graffiti on the info-signs and bins.
  • We are grateful to the staff members of Vanadzor Municipality for the transportation and placement of the bins and info-signs, as well as for their readiness to carry out regular garbage collection in the Canyon.
  • Words of gratitude go to “My Step” Foundation, the Ministry of Local Governance and Infrastructure, the Municipality of Vanadzor and to all the volunteers who cleaned the Canyon.
  • We are also grateful to Fortuna TV of Lori region which covered the happening. Their report is available .

Last but not least, all of this was possible thanks to the financial support of the UNDP-GEF Small Grants Program. More activities are planned for the preservation of the biodiversity of Pambak Range through education and infrastructural development.
